Biography

Lisa Liu is a Chinese-American violinist, composer, orchestra contractor and entrepreneur based in Los Angeles.

She began her musical studies on the piano at the age of 3 with her mother, a professional opera singer, and continued with violin lessons at the age of 8. She followed her mother's footsteps and attended The Juilliard School, receiving a Pre-College Diploma, Bachelor's and Master's degrees in violin performance while studying with world-renowned pedagogue Dorothy DeLay for 9 years.

While living in New York, Lisa started collaborating with a vast array of artists, drawn to anyone and anything non-traditional to her classical training: electronic/dance/house DJ’s, Middle-Eastern/Indian influenced groups, hip-hop bands, pop stars, experimental ensembles, and indie bands.  She created a string and piano program in a school in the South Bronx and taught hundreds of kids, many of whom she now proudly calls her friends.

In 2010, Lisa moved to Los Angeles to be closer to her family.  She quickly jumped onto the Hollywood scene, performed in clubs on Sunset, and eventually found her way onto scoring stages.  She repeatedly served as concertmaster for shows The Voice, X-Factor and American Idol and her good fortune as a Hollywood studio violinist invited her to play on numerous soundtracks for over 200 TV shows and films, including Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker; Toy Story 4, A Quiet Place, and A Star is Born.

As an orchestral contractor, Lisa has hired hundreds of musicians across the country for the tours of the Zelda Symphony, the National Geographic Symphony, and EDM group Above & Beyond. She has contracted musicians for sold-out shows at the Hollywood Bowl, Disney Hall, for performances at Coachella with Duran Duran, Gorillaz, and for TV shows and films America’s Got Talent, RBG, The Tonight Show, and most recently, Homecoming Season 2.

As a composer and string arranger, Lisa works closely with songwriters and producers to create a unique string sound with her arsenal of electric 5-string violins, violas and a baritone violin.  She has recently completed scoring a documentary on Einstein and an indie action rom-com feature film.

As an entrepreneur, Lisa is always searching for new connections and experiences that inspire and challenge her to evolve. She is the brand ambassador to a cannabis start-up that has multiple patent-pending formulas, with the mission to educate the greater community on designing a healthy, high performance lifestyle.  Please follow on IG:  @idmarkhealth
